Pumpkin Season: A Day at Brocksbushes Farm
Muddy boots, auburn leaves, and endless rows of vibrant pumpkins - a wholesome autumn afternoon at Brocksbushes Farm.
It’s officially autumn, and if you’re anything like me, you’re wrapped in knitwear, lighting candles, and fully embracing the season’s warm, burnt-orange shades.
There’s something about bundling up and crunching through brown leaves that has me feeling super cosy and ready for the cooler months. And with Halloween just around the corner, there’s nothing more seasonal than spending a wholesome afternoon pumpkin picking.
I recently found myself at Brocksbushes Farm, a family-run business nestled in the beautiful Northumberland countryside. This lovely farm is well-known for its ‘Pick Your Own Fruit’ attraction, and in autumn, visitors can wander through the fields, wheelbarrow in hand, to search for the perfect pumpkin.
If you’re after a bit of wholesome seasonal fun, this makes for the perfect autumnal day out.
Brockbushes Farm
Nestled in the picturesque Northumberland countryside near Corbridge, Brocksbushes Farm is a beloved family-run business that has been welcoming visitors for over four decades. Established in 1979 by Billy Dickinson and his mother, the farm began with a modest venture into 'Pick Your Own' raspberries, and the business has since flourished into the popular attraction that it is today.
Brocksbushes has evolved into a year-round destination, offering a wide range of seasonal produce, a bustling farm shop, Courtyard Kitchen, and various family-friendly activities. The farm is still renowned for its 'Pick Your Own' events, where visitors can harvest strawberries, raspberries, gooseberries, redcurrants, blackcurrants, plums, and pumpkins, depending on the season.
Brocksbushes Farm is located in Stocksfield, Northumberland, just outside the historic town of Corbridge. It's just a 20-minute drive from Newcastle, and is easily accessible via the A69/A68 roundabout near Corbridge.
Pumpkin Picking at Brocksbushes Farm
Brocksbushes Farm is incredibly popular during the autumn season, and it’s easy to see why. The fields are filled with rows of orange, grey, and pale pumpkins, as well as giant pumpkin trees and a pumpkin house. There are also wheelbarrows in a variety of colours make it easy (and fun) to transport your pumpkins back to the car. Let’s just say, there is no shortage of seasonal photo opportunities.
Visitors come well-prepared in their woolly hats and wellies (I found a pair of knee-high boots did the trick!), ready to wander through the pumpkin fields. At the end, there is also a carving tent where you can get creative and transform your pumpkin into the perfect Halloween decoration.
This year, the Brocksbushes team planted over 160,000 pumpkins of various shapes, sizes and colours.
The pumpkin patch is filled with plenty of autumnal photo opportunities!
Entry tickets to the pumpkin patch are £3, with the added cost of a pumpkin if you buy one. Prices vary depending on the size, ranging from small munchkin pumpkins to giant monster ones! I went for two large pumpkins and a tiny white one, which was just too cute to leave behind.
While the pumpkin patch is perfect for families and kids, it’s not just for little ones - adults (like myself) can also enjoy wandering the fields, snapping photos, and hunting for the perfect pumpkin to take home. They even host some ‘Pumpkin Twilight Sessions’ , featuring live music, street food, and seasonal cocktails, which are perfect for a relaxed evening out with friends or a cosy autumnal date.

Brocksbushes Farm Shop
After picking out the perfect pumpkins, we headed to the new Brocksbushes Farm Shop. In 2024, the farm unveilved a significant expansion, introducing a state-of-the-art facility that includes a spacious farm shop with a butchery and deli, The Courtyard Kitchen serving breakfast, lunch, and afternoon tea, and a children's Play Barn.
The Farm Shop boasts a lovely array of local produce, homemade goods, and artisan products. From cute autumnal ornaments to seasonal treats and high-quality produce, I had a great time having a mooch and browsing everything on offer.
We picked up their pork and apple sausage along with a sachet of caramelised onion gravy, which made for the perfect hearty sausage and mash to round off a wonderful autumnal day.
The Farm Shop has a lovely array of seasonal decorations.
You can’t miss the tractor hanging from the rafters!
Brocksbushes Farm is a lovely autumnal escape, whether you’re after some family fun or a wholesome day with your friends. Between the pumpkin fields, colourful decorations, and high-quality produce, it’s a place that captures the very best of the season.
So, pull on your wellies, zip up your jacket, and grab a wheelbarrow - Halloween is just around the corner!
